She Sees Him

she sees him like a book
a closed one, at that
one with hard language but valued lessons
no, she’s never been good at reading,
but if the story interests her enough,
she’ll devote time to the book
and his story interests her more than anyone’s
she indulges in the plot and the messages
told through smaller stories
with a new chapter for every city
when she reads books,
she marks lines she likes
when he tells her stories,
she mentally marks the lines
marks the passages that teach her lessons
marks the paragraphs that change her perspective
she is not the same as she was before him
he teaches
more than anybody she has ever known
she is eager
to learn
to grow
to allow him to lift her higher
higher, higher,
teaching her how to once again
and know.
